FELIZ DICIEMBRE!

1. Pastel de Hoja. Cake here is just layers of soda crackers with caramel or fruit sauce in between. No joke.
2. Pan de Pascua. IT IS DECEMBER EVERYONE. CHRISTMAS TIME which means FRUIT-NUT BREAD. It is SO popular here. Not that good but gotta love it while here right?
3. There is a man who has had cancer the last year in my ward. He was doing pretty well when I got here to the sector. He went to church and he even was inside the temple for the dedication. The week after he took a BAD turn and within 3 weeks he could not walk or move, did not eat, lost his vision. We got a call yesterday at about 5 pm from his 2 kids that live alone with him that he had died about 10 mins prior. We rushed over and long story short.... I got there and had to take scissors and cut off his clothes and dress him for the viewing. Here in chile when someone dies... the family calls everyone to inform them RIGHT AWAY and then everyone comes over RIGHT AWAY and stays ALL night and part of the next day. In the entryway is the casket with the body. So we fully dressed him in a suit and shaved his beard and got him all ready for the viewing. Then we had to clean the whole house really fast because everyone comes over immediately. It was so sad but also so uplifting being with a family that had the assurance that he was with their mom together. Surely an unforgetable experience.
4. ZONE CONF. I got my christmas package from my parents! We had some great trainings. President shared a line I loved. "Missionary work is the key to suffer spiritual Alzheimer's." We can often forget many simple truths or even spiritual moments we have had. That is why we need to always be creating more spiritual experiences and it is all possible through missionary work.
5. Stake conference and the christmas devotional. We took the bus an hour to stake conf. President and Hermana Catala were there and spoke. I have SO much respect for them. He shared a story of when he accidentally backed up over over his 2 year old daughter when she was in the driveway. He immediately gave her a blessing and rushed to the hospital. He did not know how to tell his wife what had just happened. He was devastated. Her response is what gets me. He told her and there was silence and then she said "everything will be ok". Their daughter died in the hospital. The fact that she was able to forgive him and that he was able to forgive himself is the biggest example to me of christlike love. It was accidental and obviously not part of their plan. They have the strongest marriage. Let us work on forgiveness this season to remember christ. Last night the christmas devotional started at 10 pm here. We were biking everywhere trying to get people to come. We literally brought 3 people (Catalina, Lumen, and Phaniel) to church, walked them in, and left them since we had to be in house at 10:30 haha. I hope they liked it! We will pass by tonight!
6. Intercambio with my x-comp Elder Polanco. We interviewed the haitians
(Lumen and Phaniel) and they want to be baptized...but in May... so we are just trying to help them. We interviewed Jerallin who went to the temple with us and she has a baptismal date for the 22nd! Pray for everyone I have mentioned!
7. I already told you about the disgusting food I had yesterday. Up until this point when people asked me the typical question "what is the grossest thing you have eaten?" I always said nothing. Now I am proud I can answer haha.
8. A woman told me that the sun came down and talked with her. The she told me I had bright colors radiating from me that she could feel but my companion had a dark shadow casted upon his soul. We were cracking up haha.
9. I had my interview with president and the very first thing he says to me is so is your companion ready to direct the sector? So with transfers next week... I think I am pretty sure I am getting transferred.

 SCRIPTURE OF THE WEEK:
12 For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.

Comparison is the taker of happiness. I will be the first one to say that I compare myself to others. I know that is exactly what Satan wants us to do. I love the phrase try your absolute best and God will do the rest.

SORRY THIS IS SO LONG. LOVE AND MISS YOU GUYS! FELIZ NAVIDAD!
